Understanding the Research Brief

What the Research Brief shows, how it decides what to surface, and what it doesn't do.

What this does

The Research Brief summarizes what changed across every company on your Watchlists in one place, so you don't have to open each company individually to find out. It combines two factual signals already used elsewhere on this platform: new financial data since your last visit, and SEC-derived Company Developments.

When to use it

Use it as your starting point when returning to the platform, to quickly see which of your monitored companies have something worth reviewing.

How to do it

  1. Open Research Brief from the navigation.
  2. Companies under "Needs review" have new financial data, a new SEC development, or haven't been reviewed yet.
  3. Click a company to open its full research and review the change.

What you'll see

What information is included? New financial data availability (the same signal Notifications uses) and SEC Company Developments -- nothing else. Does the Brief include every piece of news? No -- this platform does not currently have a licensed news source; see Company Developments' own help article for that scope. Does the Brief change the platform's analysis? No -- it only summarizes existing research facts, never a new calculation. Are companies ranked as investments? No -- there is no scoring, ranking, or recommendation of any kind; changes are grouped by company and ordered by recency only. The presence, absence, ordering, or frequency of an item in the Research Brief should not be interpreted as an assessment of an investment's attractiveness or as a recommendation to transact in a security. What does "You're up to date" mean? Every monitored company has been checked and none show a meaningful change right now -- distinct from a company with limited source coverage, which is shown separately and honestly, never silently folded into "up to date." How does source coverage affect the Brief? If one of the underlying signals can't be checked, the Brief still shows what it could determine and marks itself as partial coverage rather than failing outright or claiming false certainty. How do I verify a change? Open the company from the Brief -- every reason links to the same evidence-backed Company Research surfaces used throughout the platform.

If something goes wrong

Opening the Research Brief does not mark any company as reviewed -- only opening the company itself does that, so the Brief will keep showing a company until you actually look at it. A company showing 'limited source coverage' does not mean nothing happened -- it means this platform's SEC data currently has a coverage gap for that company; see Company Developments' help article for why that can happen.
